Software Specific Questions:
#9 What is the difference between the information displayed when clicking on the Link button as opposed to the LCD, NCD or CD button?
The Codelinks (Link button) represent a four year analysis of claims data that has been summarized by frequency of ICD to CPT code use across all geographic regions within the United States. Use this button to see common combinations of ICD to CPT/HCPCS codes that may help you quickly find the code you are looking for without having to perform a search.
The LCD, NCD or CD button displays the content from National or Local Coverage Determinations either as:
------The list of ICD codes that justify medical necessity for a CPT/HCPCS code,
------An alert that no ICD codes are listed, but guidelines for billing the code apply
In either case, the LCD, NCD or CD button or the subsequent screen view (when clicked) will provide options to view the applicable NCD or LCD documents. Use this button to see the list of ICD codes that justifies medical necessity for the CPT/HCPCS service you wish to provide to a medicare patient BEFORE you perform that service.
